In October 2025, the HeLit-Preschools II project was launched at the Assistant Professorship of Health Literacy with the aim of promoting health-literate frameworks in preschools in the district of Neu-Ulm. The goal is to develop a regional intervention concept that supports preschools in establishing health-literate teams and facilities.
The project builds on the outcomes of the previous project “HeLit-Preschools I” (2023–2025), which developed a guideline and a transfer concept and gathered initial data on the health literacy of preschools. The results highlighted a particular need for action in the areas of framework conditions, team competence, exchange, and networking.
HeLit-Preschools II addresses these needs. The intervention concept will be developed in close collaboration with Gesundheitsregionplus Landkreis Neu-Ulm (Neu-Ulm District Health Region Plus) and with educators and preschool managers. Together, ideas for strengthening organizational health literacy will be collected and transformed into concrete interventions. The focus, for example, could be on enhancing the health and communication skills of the preschool team to support preschools in their long-term transformation into health-literate organizations.
The project thus creates a central basis for the subsequent piloting and evaluation of health literacy measures in the preschool setting.
