Cancer prevention day at TUM Campus at the Olympic Park
News des Departments |
The Bavarian Cancer Research Center (BZKF) is organizing the statewide “Wir bewegen Bayern” day on June 13, 2026. In Munich, experts from the Technical University of Munich (TUM), Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU), and their university hospitals – TUM University Hospital and LMU University Hospital – will present a program combining medicine and sports at the TUM Campus at the Olympic Park.
The event was co-initiated by Prof. Dr. Martin Halle, Head of the Chair of Preventive Sports Medicine and Sports Cardiology: “We are pleased that University Medicine is addressing this topic for the public, as many people are likely unaware of how important physical activity is in preventing colorectal and breast cancer, and how targeted exercise therapy can be used to support patients during cancer treatment. Experts from both universities are coming together to present this topic to both young and old in both a theoretical and practical way. We are all very much looking forward to strong participation from the public — it will be an informative and active day!”
What can each of us do to lower our risk of cancer? This question is at the heart of the ”Wir bewegen Bayern“ day organized by BZKF. The main focus is on prevention. The main focus is prevention. According to current research, physical activity in particular is an important factor in helping prevent cancer and strengthen overall health. The event will also highlight how exercise therapy can support cancer patients during treatment. Workshops and talks will provide information on skin, breast, colorectal, and prostate cancer – from prevention and early detection to modern treatment options.
The gyms and sports fields at the TUM Campus an the Olympic Park will also be open. They will offer a varied program of physical activities for children and adults to try.
The event offers a diverse hands-on exercise program for children and adults. In addition, there will be an all-day lecture series in Lecture Hall 1 featuring experts from the TUM University Hospital and LMU University Hospital on topics such as cancer prevention, early detection, nutrition, physical activity, and environmental influences on the development of cancer. Furthermore, the “Meet the Expert” sessions in smaller groups invite participants to engage directly with the invited specialists — with topics such as “Exercise in Oncology” and “Cancer Prevention Specifically for Women” also playing an important role.
Sports partners lend their support
During the action day, the Central University Sports Munich (ZHS) and various Munich sports clubs, among others, will offer trial courses for every fitness level. Elite sports will also be represented: adidas, the Bavarian Olympic Training Center, and FC Bayern Munich — with its physical activity initiative “ZAM AKTIV” as well as its women’s and basketball divisions — will all be participating on site. The key message shared by everyone involved is this: physical activity is an indispensable pillar of preventive healthcare.
In addition to Munich, the BZKF's "Wir bewegen Bayern" activities on June 13, 2026, will also take place at the university locations in Würzburg, Erlangen, Regensburg, and Augsburg. This will make the day of action one of the largest prevention events in Bavaria. It is held under the patronage of Bavaria’s Minister-President Dr. Markus Söder.
