This year’s Science Day of the TUM School of Medicine and Health took place on Wednesday, 6 May 2026, at the TUM Campus in the Olympic Park. The event was organized by the TUM Graduate Center of Medicine and Health (GCMH) together with the School’s doctoral student representatives and provided around 200 doctoral candidates with the opportunity to present their current research projects and findings.
The Dean of the TUM School of Medicine and Health, Prof. Dr. Stephanie Combs, opened the event: “The Science Day primarily provides doctoral candidates with a platform to present their projects with great dedication. The focus is on the exchange of new ideas and fostering connections among researchers. This spirit of collaboration is exactly what lies at the heart of the event.”
In addition to numerous presentations by doctoral researchers on topics such as “From Heart Rate to Heat: Advancing Lactate Prediction Through Thermodynamics” and “Gene Therapy for Hearing Loss: Lessons from the Damaged Cochlea,” the program also included poster sessions that offered participants ample opportunity for discussion and academic exchange.
The Science Day was further complemented by three keynote lectures: Prof. Dr. Susanna Hofmann (LMU University Hospital / Helmholtz Munich) spoke on “Gender-Specific Medicine,” Dr. Cordula Weiß (Bavarian Chemical Employers’ Associations) provided insights into “Career Opportunities in the Health Care Industry,” and Dr. Josef Braun (TUM Venture Labs) highlighted perspectives in the fields of innovation and entrepreneurship.
A particular focus of the event was networking within the scientific community of the TUM School of Medicine and Health. In addition to exchanging research ideas, participants were able to establish new contacts and initiate potential collaborations.
The Science Day concluded with awards recognizing outstanding posters and presentations by early-career researchers. Once again, the event highlighted the diversity and high quality of research at the TUM School of Medicine and Health.
