Follow-up report day 5
Four medal decisions were up for grabs in the track cycling events, with no German medals in the two endurance disciplines of women's 20km points race and men's 25km points race. In the women's event, Italy's Rachele Barbieri prevailed over Clara Copponi of France and Daria Pikulik of Poland. The German starter Lea Lin Teutenberg finished sixth. In the men's race Donavan Grondin from France won ahead of Simone Consonni from Italy and Sebastian Mora Vedri from Spain. Moritz Malcharek from Germany secured ninth place. In the men's 1000m time trial final, Maximilian Dörnbach of Germany secured third place. Gold went to Melvin Landerneau of France ahead of Italy's Matteo Bianchi. Emma Hinze won her third gold medal at these European Championships, in a close final the German could prevail against Mathilde Gros from France. The decision was only made with a photo finish in the decisive third run. The bronze medal went to Laurine Van Riessen from the Netherlands.
Both German beach volleyball teams were able to win sovereignly in their first group match. Chantal Laboureur and Sarah Schulz won two to nil after sets, as did Cinja Tillmann and Svenja Müller.
In climbing, the finals in speed climbing were on the agenda. In the women's event, all three medals went to Poland. Gold went to Aleksandra Miroslaw, silver to Aleksandra Kalucka and bronze to Natalia Kalucka. For the German climbers Julia Koch and Anna Apel it was over in the round of 16, for Nuria Brockfeld it went to the quarterfinals. In the men's event, the competition for both Germans Sebastian Lucke and Leander Carmanns was also already over in the round of 16. Gold went to the Ukrainian Danyil Boldyrev.
Also in the Rudi-Sedlmayer-Hall there was the first medal decision in table tennis, in the mixed doubles. After the German team, consisting of Benedikt Duda and Sabine Winter, had already been eliminated from the competition in the round of 16, the semi-finals and the final took place without German participation.
Gold was won by Emmanuel Lebesson and Jianan from France ahead of the Romanians Ovidiu Ionescu and Bernadette Szocs. In the first group stage matches of the individual competitions, the Germans Annett Kaufmann and Franziska Schreiner were able to claim victories.
On the first competition day of the track and field athletes there were directly three medals for the German team. Richard Ringer secured the gold medal in the men's marathon with a spirited final sprint ahead of Maru Teferi and Gashau Ayale from Israel. In the team classification the good performance was enough for silver for the men. In the women's marathon there were no individual medals for the German athletes, these went to Aleksandra Lisowska from Poland, Matea Parlov Koštro from Croatia and Nienke Brinkmann from the Netherlands. However, the outstanding overall team performance was still enough for the gold medal in the team ranking. In the women's shot put final the Germans showed a good performance. Sara Gambretta finished fifth, Julia Ritter sixth and Katharina Maisch eighth. Gold went to the Dutch top favorite Jessica Schilder, who set a new annual world best with 20.24m. Filip Mihaljević from Croatia won the men's event. Simon Bayer of Germany finished eleventh. In the women's 10,000m final, Konstanze Klosterhalfen narrowly missed out on a medal, finishing fourth. Yasemin Can of Turkey took gold. The decathletes also started their competitions. With Niklas Kaul, Kai Kazmirek, Arthur Abele and Tim Nowak, four German athletes will compete. The world champion of 2019, Niklaus Kaul, showed a good performance and can have hopes for a medal. After personal best times in the 100- and 400-meter run and also otherwise good performances, he starts the second day of competition in seventh place, where he has his strengths. In the lead is the Swiss Simon Ehammer. Top favorite Kevin Mayer from France had to give up with an injury.

Cycling
In the exhibition hall, the track cyclists start their last day of competition, with four more decisions to come. In the women's Madison final, Franziska Brausse, Lena Charlotte Reissner and Lea Lin Teutenberg will compete for Germany. The German men are also hoping for a medal, Roger Kluge, Moritz Malcharek and Theo Reinhardt will compete here. In addition, the decisions in the men's and women's keirin are scheduled.
Beach volleyball
It continues with the group phase in the men's and women's competition. From 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., you can watch free of charge here at Königsplatz. Seven German teams will be playing their first match. Among them is the Olympic champion from Rio de Janeiro 2016, Kira Walkenhorst, who will play with her partner Lousie Lippmann against the defending champions Nina Brunner and Tanja Hüberli from Switzerland.
Table tennis
In addition to the next group stage matches in the women's and men's singles, the round of the best 32 in the doubles competitions is also coming up. With Nina Mittelham and Sabine Winter, a German favorite doubles will also start. In addition, Annett Kaufmann and Franziska Schreiner will start in the women's singles. In the men's event, only one German team, consisting of Benedikt Duda and Dang Qiu, will compete.
Athletics
Eight gold medals will be awarded today. The day will start with the men's and women's 35 km walking competitions, where European champions will be crowned for the first time. In the evening, the final in the men's long jump will take place, without German participation.
Kristin Pudenz, Claudine Vita and Shanice Craft will fight for the medals in the women's discus final. Then at 9:08 p.m., the men's 5,000m final will start with the top favorite from Norway, Jakob Ingebrigtsen. Also the Germans Mohamed Mohumed and Davor Aaron Bienenfeld could qualify for the final. With Niklas Kaul, Kai Kazmirek, Arthur Abele and Tim Nowak, four Germans are competing in the decathlon. 110 meter hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw and finally the 1,500 meter run, these are the disciplines that are scheduled for the decathletes today and will conclude the competition. At the end of the day, there is another highlight: The finals in the women's and men's 100-meter sprint. In the men's event, the Olympic champion from Tokyo, Marcell Jacobs, will be taking part. In the women's race, Germany's Gina Lückenkemper hopes for a medal.
