On 27th November 2025, Gökçe Kalkan presented an adaptation study at the 54th Conference on Movement Biology (54. Mozgásbiológiai Konferencia) in Debrecen, Hungary. His talk focused on the cross-cultural adaptation of the Sports Courage Scale, a topic of increasing importance in sports psychology.
The presentation highlighted the need for culturally accurate and linguistically valid measurement tools to assess psychological constructs in sport. To address this, Gökçe provided a clear and detailed overview of the rigorous methodology applied in his project.
A central part of his talk was the explanation of the multi-stage validation process implemented to ensure the psychometric soundness of the Hungarian adaptation. He walked the audience through each step:
- Translation: The initial adaptation of the scale into Hungarian.
- Backward Translation: A key quality assurance step to check conceptual alignment with the original version.
- Expert Review: Content validation by subject matter experts.
- Pilot Study: A preliminary field test to evaluate usability and clarity, including interviews and assessments with a UEFA A licensed coach and a former elite football player.
Through this systematic approach, the study aims to make a standardized and culturally appropriate sports psychology assessment tool available for Hungarian athletes, coaches, and practitioners.
