Graduation, then the big question: travel first, continue studying, or go straight to work? Each year, nearly 400 students complete their studies at the Department Health and Sport Sciences. However, for many prospective graduates, the path after graduation remains to be determined. To support students in their decision-making process, the Department Health and Sport Sciences held its second Career Day at the TUM Campus in the Olympic Park on Tuesday, June 11, 2024.
"The Career Day, in conjunction with the practical semester, is an exceptional opportunity for students to proactively initiate their professional connections and build a network during their studies," advises Dr. Till Lorenzen, Managing Director of the TUM School of Medicine and Health. "I urge students to actively explore various professional fields and potential employers during their studies. This can significantly facilitate their job entry if they have already established the right contacts. These experiences from internships and the Career Day are as vital as the academic content of our degree programs."
Under the motto "Opening Perspectives for Life After Graduation" interested students could connect with various employers at the career fair and learn about potential career opportunities. Companies from different sectors addressed students' questions at around 20 stands.
The exhibitors included the LGL Landesamt für Gesundheits- und Lebensmittelsicherheit, LMU Klinikum Großhadern BGM, Gesundheit Bewegt GmbH, Sandoz, Bayerische Gesellschaft für psychische Gesundheit e.V., SHL Telemedizin, HCS Partners, Stiftung Kindergesundheit, Academic Team of the Bundesagentur für Arbeit, Cosmed Deutschland, body + soul group AG & Co. KG, GymPass, ZAB e. V., fischerAppelt GmbH, Sport 1 Medien GmbH, Olympic Training Center of Bavaria as well as the Center for Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine.
In addition to the individual stands, which encouraged interaction with potential employers, some representatives also gave keynote speeches to clarify their respective professional roles for the students. For example, Speakers included Kathrin Heigl and Norman Wursthorn from fischerAppelt GmbH on the topic of "Your springboard into the world of communication!" and Dan Ma and Martin Rock from Sandoz on the subject of “Pioneering Access for Patients.” Students also had the opportunity to have their resumes reviewed and, if necessary, adjusted in personal consultations with experts to ensure they made the best possible impression on companies.
The Career Day, a testament to TUM's commitment, was meticulously organized by the Student Advisory Service. "We are delighted with the overwhelming response to the second Career Day," shares Stefan Unzeitig, Student Advisor for the Bachelor's and Master's programs. "We are steadfast in our mission to establish a format that fosters the vital exchange between students and organizations on the path to the professional world. We eagerly anticipate the third round in 2025." The event was supported by Luisa Daum and Thomas Itzstein, student assistants from the Student Advisory Service, who particularly praised the great response to the Career Day.
