After the successful premiere last year, the Department of Sport and Health Sciences invites you to the second edition of the interdisciplinary "Future of Health" Summit from October 12 to 14, 2022, which this year will focus on "Child Health and Wellbeing".
Under the patronage of the Bavarian Minister of Health Klaus Holetschek, leading international experts from science and industry as well as representatives of UNESCO and the WHO will identify the current challenges for the health of children and adolescents in keynote speeches and panel discussions. They will also focus on the fundamental changes that are essential for sustainable child and adolescent health.
An interdisciplinary Autumn School for undergraduate, graduate, doctoral and young professional students who want to explore child and adolescent health in greater depth will take place at the same time.
"With the second edition of the Future of Health Summit and Autumn School, we want to once again bring together experts, professionals and leading scientists as well as PhD students and undergraduates to discuss current health challenges," explains Prof. Dr. Renate Oberhoffer-Fritz, Dean of the Department of Sport and Health Sciences and Head of the Chair of Preventive Pediatrics. "In particular, I am pleased that again this year Minister of State Klaus Holetschek has gratefully taken over the patronage of the event, which emphatically underlines the significance and importance of the Summit."
The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has had long-lasting negative consequences on children's development and health. For example, significant weight gain has been observed in adolescents. Physical alienation, virtual schooling, increased screen time, and less physical activity have contributed to unhealthier lives. In addition, the pandemic has accelerated and exacerbated many of the ethnic and socioeconomic health disparities that already exist.
The Summit addresses these issues and focuses on the fundamental changes that are imperative for sustainable health. This year, the focus is on three key areas:
- Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) in childhood and the role of COVID-19.
- Perspectives on prevention
- Health Behavior
Experts include Prof. Dr. Didier Jourdan, holder of the UNESCO Chair in Global Health and Education and Director of the WHO Collaborating Center for Global Health and Education, André Andonian, Chairman Emeritus North Asia and Special Advisor - Senior Partner Emeritus McKinsey & Company, and Prof. The Lord Ara Darzi, Co-Director of the Institute of Global Health Innovation at the Department of Surgery, Imperial College London.
In addition to Prof. Dr. Renate Oberhoffer-Fritz as Dean of the Department SG, also participating from the TUM side are Prof. Dr. Gerhard Kramer, Vice President for Research and Innovation, Prof. Dr. Urs Gasser, Dean of the TUM School of Social Sciences and Technology, Prof. Dr. Julia Hauer, Head of the Children's Center of the Munich Clinic Harlaching and Schwabing, Prof. Dr. Volker Mall, Head of the Professorship of Social Pediatrics, Prof. Dr. Orkan Okan, Head of the Assistant Professorship of Health Literacy, Prof. Dr. Matthias Richter, Head of the Chair of Social Determinants of Health, Prof. Dr. Nikkil Sudharsanan, Head of the Assistant Professorship of Behavioral Science for Disease Prevention and Health, and Prof. Dr. Heidrun Thaiss, Honorary Professor of TUM, will participate in the program.
The Summit is aimed at professionals in health care (health care, health care economics, health care policy, health care industry) and its related fields, students and graduates of all disciplines, and anyone with an interest in how actors analyze and comment on current health challenges. The event will take place both face-to-face and digitally via Zoom videoconference.
