Prof. Dr. Gerhard Kramer, Senior Vice President for Research and Innovation, welcomed the about 90 invited “Freunde der TUM”
Prof. Dr. Joachim Hermsdörfer, Head of the Department Health and Sport Sciences, thanked the honored guests for their benevolent support for “Freunde der TUM” as well as their promotion of young aspiring academics
Prof. Dr. Karsten Köhler, Head of the Assistant Professorship of Exercise, Nutrition and Health, held a presentation about “Nutrition & Sport – two sides of the same coin?”
Prof. Dr. Leonie Sundmacher, Head of the Associate Professorship of Health Economics, presented the topic “Hospital reform – quo vadis?”
Prof. Dr. Martin Halle, Head of the Chair of Preventive Sports Medicine and Sports Cardiology, spoke about “The ‘moving’ hospital – an innovative concept of a new medicine”
Prof. Dr. Renate Oberhoffer-Fritz, Vice Dean Talent Management and Diversity and Head of the Chair of preventative pediatrics, spoke about the topic: “Fit4Life: Prevention begins with children”
During a tour of the TUM campus at the Olympic Park, Dr. Till Lorenzen, Managing Director of the TUM School of Medicine and Health, showed the "Freunde der TUM" the new sports campus and its special features
To wrap up the event the “Freunde der TUM” had time to exchange and mingle/network in the evening

“Having the "Freunde der TUM” at our side is invaluable. Their commitment is essential for promoting excellent research and supporting our young academics - and has been for over a hundred years. We want to thank you very much for this."

With these words, Prof. Dr. Gerhard Kramer, Executive Vice President Research and Innovation, welcomed the 90 invited "Freunde der TUM" who gathered in BayWa Lecture Hall 1 of the new TUM Campus at the Olympic Park on Friday, July 19, 2024. In addition to Vice President Prof. Kramer, Head of the Department Health and Sport Sciences, Prof. Dr. Joachim Hermsdörfer welcomed the guests.

The "Freunde der TUM e.V." (formerly Bund der Freunde der Technischen Universität München e.V.) supports the Technical University of Munich in science, research, and teaching and has set itself the goal of promoting young academics in particular. In doing so, the association promotes the long tradition of outstanding research in science and technology, innovation and experimentation, integrity and cosmopolitanism, social competence and family friendliness, and a trustworthy and future-oriented education for young people. 

Members are invited to exclusive events every year. This year, the get-together event took place at the new TUM Campus at the Olympiapark, which is intended to combine the research areas of medicine, sports, and health science. On October 1, 2023, the former Departments of Medicine and Sport and Health Sciences were merged to form the new TUM School of Medicine and Health.

"The strategic merger of the Faculty of Medicine and the Department of Sport and Health Sciences enables a seamless combination of prevention and highly specialized intervention," says Prof. Dr. Joachim Hermsdörfer. "Thanks to the collaboration with the TUM University Hospital and the other six schools, we benefit from innovative treatment concepts and scientific impulses. This teamwork and interdisciplinarity open up new horizons and are the key to joint success in research and teaching." 

After the welcome address, the participants continued with short presentations and various insights into research topics by professors from the Department Health and Sport Sciences: 

Finally, the guests had the opportunity to take a guided tour and gain exclusive insights into the design of the campus and the various sections, such as the laboratory and diagnostics areas. The TUM Campus at the Olympiapark is one of Europe's most modern scientific locations for health and sports sciences and is used by around 3,000 students per semester. After the tour, there was time for the "Freunde der TUM" to chat and network at the end of the evening.
