On Friday, August 12, the gymnastics team final and the all-around final of the juniors (age groups 14 and 15) were on the program.
Helen Kevric from Stuttgart was the first German gymnast ever to win the title at a Junior European Championships in the all-around and thus celebrated a historic triumph. The 14-year-old secured the gold medal after a strong performance in the Olympic Hall with a lead of more than one point (52.932 points). Romania's Amalia Ghigoarta (51.432 points) finished second, while Italy's Viola Pierazzini (50.099 points) received the bronze medal.
The German team also secured precious metal in the team competition. With 150.329 points, Kevric, Marlene Gotthardt, Meolie Jauch, Chiara Moiszi and Silja Stoehr were only beaten by the gymnasts from Italy (153.966 points) and Romania (150.495 points) and received the bronze medal.
On Sunday, August 14, the German junior gymnasts have further medal chances at the apparatus finals. All-around winner Helen Kevric is in the finals on all four apparatus. Marlene Gotthardt will compete on vault, Chiara Moiszi will compete on balance beam.
Gymnasts are in the team final
On Thursday, the gymnasts started with the qualification for the team final as well as the all-around final.
The German gymnasts showed solid performances and entered the team final in fourth place with a total of 158.730 points. The team only had to admit defeat to the teams from Italy, Great Britain and France.
Nevertheless, the team with Kim Bui and Elisabeth Seitz from Stuttgart, Emma Malewski and Pauline Schäfer-Betz from Chemnitz and Sarah Voss from Cologne was very happy to have reached the common big goal. The team final with the best eight teams of the qualification will take place today, Saturday afternoon, August 13.
Kim Bui, who will compete for the last time on the apparatus at the European Championships and then end her active career, finished in the top-10 with a score of 53.965, finishing in a strong eighth place. Emma Malewski was happy about 14th place after a very stable performance with 52.032 points. Sarah Voss from Cologne reached 17th place with 50.899.
In addition, the German gymnasts reached a total of four apparatus finals, which will take place on Sunday afternoon, August 14. Kim Bui and Elisabeth Seitz reached the final on uneven bars as fourth and fifth, Emma Malewski and Pauline Schäfer-Betz reached the final on balance beam as second and eighth.
