Dr. Otto Kolbinger focuses on the uncharted area of the development of rules in sports, using a broad range of methods, from classical tools of performance analysis to state of the art text mining approaches to analyze reactions of stakeholders. As part of his research, he introduced the terms Trivial Offenses and Technological Officiating Aids as well as their respective systematization.
He further directed the performed projects for the evaluation of the goal line technology and the vanishing spray, which were commissioned by the Deutsche Fußball Liga (DFL), and a media enhancement project in collaboration with Spiegel Online, funded by Google’s Digital News Initiative.
Dr. Otto Kolbinger’s primary teaching duties are methodology and analytics.
