With great dismay and deep sorrow, we bid farewell to Laura Dahlmeier, who tragically lost her life at the age of only 31 during an expedition in the Karakoram Mountains in Pakistan.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Laura Dahlmeier,” says Department Head Prof. Dr. Joachim Hermsdörfer. “Her dedication, determination, and passion for mountain and outdoor sports will never be forgotten. She studied the Bachelor's degree program in Sports Science with great success at our institution and also completed the demanding Training as a state-certified mountain and ski guide with distinction.”
Laura Dahlmeier was not only one of the most successful biathletes in international sports history, but also an extraordinary personality.
We remember Laura Dahlmeier as a committed, curious, and thoughtful student who combined her passion for sports with a deep interest in nature, the environment, and education, and who always remained positively connected to our department.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to her family, friends, and all who were close to her.
On behalf of the entire department, all colleagues and all students
