More movement and awareness for environmentally friendly mobility
The aim of the "Kreuz & Quer" campaign is, on the one hand, to playfully promote movement after the many lockdowns to combat the Corona pandemic. On the other hand, the focus is on the mobility biography, i.e. the promotion of traffic competence and the sharpening of awareness for environmentally friendly mobility, according to Sarah Kellermann, project manager on the part of the City of Munich. This has a proven influence on mobility behavior in adulthood. In concrete terms, this means that people who start cycling at an early age are more likely to leave their cars behind later on.
"Kreuz & Quer": How it works!
The nearly 2,000 participants in the campaign are currently scurrying through their neighborhoods on bicycles, scooters or even on foot. They use their chip cards to pass through various checkpoints and collect points for every kilometer they cover. It is up to the children and young people to decide which means of transport they use. The only thing that is strictly forbidden is driving a car or taking the bus. Together, the players have already covered 41,000 kilometers in the last two weeks - and thus circumnavigated the globe once. A great success, which the Deutschlandfunk emphasizes in a current contribution and illuminates further backgrounds. Interested parties can access the full length of the report online.
The role of TUM: Evaluation by the Associate Professorship of Didactics in Sport and Health
The evaluation is carried out by Jan Ellinger and Dr. Christoph Mall, sports scientists and Research Associates at the Associate Professorship of Didactics in Sport and Health headed by Prof. Dr. Filip Mess. This evaluation is important in order to draw conclusions with regard to urban development and future health actions. The researchers conduct surveys and use anonymized data from the various checkpoints. "We observe that in fast-growing cities like Munich, the connection to physical activity and nature is increasingly lost. Accordingly, physical activity levels are dropping," Ellinger said. This fosters an alarming trend, he said: 17 to 20 percent of children and young people have mental health problems, such as anxiety or depression. This trend is to be counteracted in the future with campaigns such as "Kreuz & Quer".
