At this year’s D-A-CH Sports Cardiology Symposium, experts from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland will gather in Munich to discuss the latest scientific findings and clinical experiences related to “Heart and Exercise.” The event will take place on November 22, 2025, starting at 8:30 a.m., in the Lecture Hall Pavilion of TUM University Hospital Rechts der Isar.
The symposium is organized by the Chair of Preventive Sports Medicine and Sports Cardiology under the direction of Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Martin Halle, together with Prim. Univ. Prof. Dr. Dr. Josef Niebauer (University of Salzburg) and Prof. Dr. med. Christian Schmied (University Hospital Zurich).
“The recommendations on exercise in heart disease – exercise clearance, training, strength or endurance, what level of intensity? There are always new developments, such as the recent recommendations on exercise in cardiomyopathy or myocarditis. As always, we will discuss these topics in a very practical way, using case examples from our outpatient clinics together with the participants”, explains Prof. Halle.
The program comprises five panels covering a wide range of sports cardiology topics:
Cardiac arrhythmias in athletes and modern telemonitoring concepts
Cardiac imaging in an interdisciplinary context
Exercise in cardiomyopathies – new perspectives and limitations
Science Slam featuring current research findings
Cardioprotection in oncology patients through exercise and sport
Prof. Martin Halle, head of the Chair of Preventive Sports Medicine and Sports Cardiology, will speak on the topic “Exercise in HOCM – Breaking a Dogma.”
HOCM, or hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy, is a heart muscle disease in which the heart thickens and blood flow is obstructed. New research indicates that, under medical supervision, affected individuals can safely engage in physical activity.
In addition to engaging lectures, participants can look forward to lively discussions on practice-oriented questions – ranging from the individualized care of physically active patients to the future of sports cardiology services.
The D-A-CH Sports Cardiology Symposium 2025 is aimed not only at physicians and clinical professionals but also at all interested sports and health scientists.
