"Dear graduates, stay agile and alert as you have been for the last few years and continue to have such a lucky hand professionally and privately, which you already proved by choosing TUM at the beginning of your studies." With these words, Prof. Dr. Gerhard Müller, Vice President for Studies and Teaching at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), welcomed the graduates of the Department of Sport and Health Sciences (SG). On Thursday, 17 February 2022, due to the still prevailing COVID-19 pandemic, the Department celebrated a virtual Absolvia for the second time, which was broadcast on the video portal "YouTube". In 2021, 310 Bachelor's, 92 Master's and 186 teacher training students successfully completed their studies. Furthermore, one habilitation and 25 doctorates were completed.
In his speech, Prof. Müller emphasised that "the Department of Sport and Health Sciences is a top study address. It is growing steadily and serves societal megatopics with its focus on health, prevention and competitive sports and its central overarching focus on 'physical activity'." In addition, he praised the "continuing education activities" of the TUM Sport and Health for Life continuing education academy.
"The remarkably high number of graduates in the various degree programmes not only documents the great academic acceptance of the sports and health sciences, but also reflects the high social relevance of the many fields of activity into which you can be discharged today with a certain pride and proud conscience," explained Prof. Dr. Renate Oberhoffer-Fritz, Dean of the Department, in her welcoming speech.
Prof. Oberhoffer-Fritz told the graduates that with their degrees "they have received profound expertise that will enable them to enter a diverse, exciting and forward-looking job market with great prospects. From now on, it is up to you to use the academic education at the TU firstly for yourself personally in the best possible way and secondly for the benefit of our entire society."
Diversity Award & Dr. Gertrude Krombholz Award
As part of the virtual Absolvia, the Department awarded the Diversity Award for the eighth time, with a prize of 500 euros each. A total of seven papers were proposed. Outstanding theses with a diversity focus are honoured.
The Dr. Gertrude Krombholz Prize was awarded for the 24th time. It honours the best academic papers in the field of sports and health sciences that combine theory and practice in an outstanding way. A total of 20 papers were submitted. The jury, consisting of Prof. Dr. Ansgar Schwirtz, Prof. Dr. Joachim Hermsdörfer, Prof. Dr. Martin Lames and the founder and namesake Dr. Gertrude Krombholz, chose Maximilian Bernstetter and Sabrina Berreiter (both Master's theses) as well as Mona Saller and Jannica Viehweg (both Bachelor's theses) as prize winners.
