To better prepare graduates of the “Sport & Exercise Science” Master’s program for jobs in elite level sports, the chair of Performance Analysis and Sport Informatics introduced the module “Special Topics in Elite Level Sports”. One of those special topics are talent development systems, which is why we were thrilled to welcome Max Legath, Head Scout Youth at the FC Bayern Campus, as an invited speaker in our seminar.
During a zoom conference, Max Legath gave insights into the everyday working life at the FC Bayern Campus, the scouting process of youth players and the efforts to tackle the relative age effect at his club. During and after the talk, students could discuss with our guest in a talk-to-the-expert format. Both were well received by our students, who did even stay in the meeting for more than the scheduled seminar time to join the discussion after Max Legath’s presentation. Max Legath added after the session: “It was a pleasure to meet the top academic researchers and the TUM students for an interesting discussion and exchange of views on the relative age effect. We are very much looking forward to future projects and shared insights.“
Prof. Lames noted that “it is very interesting to see how practitioners at a top tier club implement our research designs to gain knowledge about phenomena like the relative age effect, which is one of our main research areas”. Dr. Kolbinger pointed out that “it was especially encouraging for our students to see how knowledge they gain during our module is of use in practice. Analysts at FC Bayern conducted exactly the same analyses like our students had to apply in this module”.
The Chair of Performance Analysis and Sports Informatics expresses its thanks to Max Legath and FC Bayern München for this valuable contribution to our module.
