1 March 2025 marked the start of the DFG-funded HyperMet research group (2 x 4 years), which is headed by Henning Wackerhage (TUM Sports Biology) and Hanna Taipaleenmäki (LMU). On 1 March, Silke Jost also started as HyperMet Science Manager and Moritz Eggelbusch as HyperMet Postdoc in Sports Biology. The aim of the research group is to investigate the effects of muscle hypertrophy and atrophy on metabolic health.
Silke Jost has a doctorate in biochemistry. She will support the research group as science manager and take care of events, finances, strategy and social media.
Moritz Eggelbusch studied sports science in Münster and studied at the VU Amsterdam in Rob Wüst's group. He has already won the John O. Holloszy Prize at the International Biochemistry of Exercise Conference for his research. He will investigate how hypertrophying and atrophying muscles change their metabolism and how this affects the metabolism in the rest of the organism.
