With 14 gyms, twelve lecture halls, 15 diagnostic rooms, five workshops, 300 offices, a new cafeteria and library, the new TUM Campus in the Olympic Park is one of Europe's most modern scientific locations for health and sports sciences in the heart of Munich's historic Olympic Park. After completion of the second construction phase, the new building will now be officially inaugurated on Monday, May 16.
This will provide a new home for TUM's Department of Sport and Health Sciences and the University Sports Center Munich. With the help of the new building, theory and practice will be linked even more closely in the future and guarantee a functional flow between science and practice.
"I am very pleased that the second phase of construction, including all student areas such as the lecture halls, seminar rooms, the sports halls, the library and the cafeteria, which has already been in operation since the winter semester 2021/22, will now be officially inaugurated," explains Prof. Dr. Renate Oberhoffer-Fritz, Dean of the Department of Sport and Health Sciences and head of the Chair of Preventive Pediatrics. "Twenty years after the Department was founded in 2002 and 50 years after the Olympic Games in Munich, the TUM Campus in the Olympic Park has now taken on a new shape."
During a ceremony, an official handover of the key to the new building will be held by the Bavarian State Minister for Housing, Construction and Transport, Christian Bernreiter, to the Bavarian State Minister for Science and the Arts, Markus Blume, and TUM President Prof. Dr. Thomas F. Hofmann. In addition, Prof. Oberhoffer-Fritz and Michael Hahn, Head of the University Sports Center Munich, will discuss the special features of the new building and its importance for research, teaching and university sports.
Laura Dahlmeier, TUM student of sports science and two-time Olympic champion in biathlon, Anne Haug, World Championship bronze medalist in triathlon 2022 and Ironman Hawaii winner of 2019, and Anna Schaffelhuber, seven-time Paralympic champion in monoskiing, will talk in a roundtable about the cooperation with the Department of Sport and Health Sciences in the field of research during their active careers.
Anouschka Horn, presenter of the Bavarian Television, will guide through the festive program.
Starting at 2 PM, interested guests can take part in guided tours of the new building by appointment.
In the central "Rue intérieure" (Level 1), which runs once through the new TUM Campus in the Olympic Park, measurement and diagnostic procedures of the Department can be experienced and tried out up close.
Following the official ceremony, the invited guests from politics and science can then take a closer look at the new building during an Open Campus with catering and music.
