Change of direction: from bodybuilder with eating disorders to feel-good body
Sophia Thiel has lived with an eating disorder for many years. In the process, she has, as she describes it, committed "many outrages on her body". For the year 2022, she has set herself high goals again after a long time off: While the former bodybuilder's focus has so far been on mercilessly optimizing her body, she now wants to follow her path to a feel-good body and - in addition to mental health - take more care of her physical health again. In doing so, she is accompanied by the Department of Sport and Health Sciences together with the TUM School of Medicine at the TU Munich and supported with professional sports medicine advice.
Sports medicine examination: How fit is Sophia Thiel?
Sophia Thiel had a precise diagnosis of her cardiovascular system, her musculoskeletal system and a check of her sports suitability and her state of fitness carried out at the Polyclinic for Preventive and Rehabilitative Sports Medicine. This was followed by an analysis of her body composition, i.e. the current fat and muscle percentage of her body weight. Although she now has a few pounds more on her ribs, Thiel's muscle mass as a percentage of her total weight is still above average at 35 percent. The walk to the body scale, accompanied by cameras, costs Thiel special overcoming. "Every day with weight gain was a bad day for me," says Thiel. The fact that she now shares this value in front of her community - the video has a quarter of a million views in the first week - her followers thank her with hundreds of compliments.
Reaching the goal with endurance training
In order to achieve her goal of a feel-good body, Prof. Halle recommends that the specialist for weight training should not neglect endurance training despite the high muscle mass. The Professor for Preventive and Rehabilitative Sports Medicine explains in the final conversation after the examination: "It is not insignificant, especially as far as regeneration is concerned, to also do ergometer training despite weight training." Thiel wants to take this advice into account. After a few months, she will then record the change in her body with another check-up at the TU Munich. As always, her fans will then be there again.
