"[...] In conclusion, we found residual force enhancemet and activation reduction in sub-maximal voluntarily activated quadriceps femoris (QF). A compensation model based on weighted EMGs, PCSAs, muscle volume, and EMG-torque relationships of the different muscles comprising QF was used to account for the complexity of QF muscle. In contrast to previous findings, the compensation model revealed a significant reduction in QF activation after stretch, which might potentially be highly relevant for activities of daily living, as an activation reduction might point to a saving of metabolic energy, and thus an efficient, optimized action of muscles."
