"IHLA is the international professional society of my research area, and many capable colleagues are very actively involved in advancing the topic of health literacy in research, practice and politics. It is therefore a great honor that they have placed their trust in me in this election, to be able to help shaping the professional society in the coming years," Prof. Okan is pleased to say.
He convinced the voters with his three program points for the three years of his commitment: He wants to strengthen the individual working groups and members, improve the global visibility of IHLA and put a clear focus on health literacy research and its implementation in practice and policy.
"As probably everyone could feel in their personal environment during the Corona pandemic, health literacy, i.e., the ability to classify and assess information, is of central importance to our society and personal and public health," says Prof. Okan. It is therefore a central task of IHLA to also influence politics and to communicate strategically about research results and 'best practices' in order to sustainably promote health literacy in practice.
