In June 2025, the Public Health Economics section of the European Public Health Association (EUPHA) hosted in collaboration with several partners for the very first time a European conference on Public Health Economics. The Team from the Professorship of Public Health and Prevention at the TUM School of Medicine and Health had a strong presence at the venue in Palermo, with six team members attending and presenting their research. An engaging project showcase on the advanced microsimulation model IMPACT NCD was successfully delivered by Dr. Karl Emmert-Fees together with Andreea Felea, Xiao Tan, Ágota Mészáros and Min Fan. While Dr. Emmert-Fees introduced the audience to the general modelling framework and relevant limitations, the four PhD students presented preliminary results of various modelling applications in the German context. In this sense, Ms. Felea addressed the use of modelling to project health and economic implications of unhealthy diets; Ms. Tan and Dr. Mészáros discussed a modelling approach to analyzing meat reduction policies; Ms. Fan concluded with an application to assess the cost-effectiveness of Semaglutide for weight management. In a further session, key results of a systematic review on international sugar-sweetened beverages taxation policies were presented by Selda Ghahramani who recently graduated from the graduate program in Epidemiology at Ludwig-Maximilians University Munich. Overall, the content of the conference program was broad with topics ranging from health inequalities and climate change, resource allocation, economic evaluation and pharmacoeconomics to mental health interventions and healthy aging. The PHP Team is looking forward to attending future editions of the conference and even more exciting multidisciplinary discussions with fellow international researchers.
