Monica Machado, from the TUM Professorship of Public Health and Prevention, attended the 17th European Public Health Conference held in Lisbon, Portugal, from 13-15 November, 2024. Held annually, this year’s theme ‘Sailing the waves of European public health: exploring a sea of innovation’ emphasised advancing (global) public health by innovatively addressing inequalities and inequities across diverse health challenges through interdisciplinary strategies. Monica's participation included showcasing her master thesis research titled, ‘Educational Inequalities and cervical cancer mortality: A systematic review and meta-analysis’, a project she pursued with the Centre for Global Health Inequalities Research (CHAIN) at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim, Norway. This work integrates intersectional themes, including social determinants of health, noncommunicable diseases, and health disparities, aligning closely with her PhD research within the DASH-NUTRINT projects at the Professorship. Currently, Monica is exploring sugar-sweetened beverage consumption among adolescents in sub-Saharan Africa.
