Title: Evaluation of the BIG-Project (Movement as Investment in Health) – Economic aspects
Funding Body: German Ministry of Education and Research
Funding Period: 2021-2023
Partners: Friedrich-Alexander Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, Department of Sport Science
Objectives:
- In this project we aim to analyze the economic costs, barriers and implications of the BIG-Project („Bewegung als Investition in Gesundheit“ - Movement as Investment in Health).
Background:
- Available studies have already shown that community-based participative research projects have a large potential to increase the health of socially disadvantaged individuals. However, little evidence exists regarding the long-term implementation, scaling and transfer of these strategies. This project aims at evaluating the BIG-Project, as an initiative to improve physical activity of women in socially disadvantaged groups. The project was started in Erlangen in 2005 and was implemented in other 17 communities.
Methods:
- We will analyze long-term effects regarding economic aspects of the BIG project at individual and structural level in all participating communities. Furthermore, the long-term implementation and transfer of the project to other comunities will be analyzed. We will make use of mixed-methods, involving both cross-sectional and longitudinal data.
Impact:
- The project will add valuable information on economic aspects and preferences important for the sustainability of health promotion programs for vulnerable or disadvantaged women.
