From 2015 to 2017, Chaise Murphy studied "Nutrition and Health Science" in the Master's program at the University of Nebraska. Following this, he began his doctoral studies at Nebraska. In 2016, while still a Master's student, Chaise began working with Prof. Dr. Köhler. When Prof. Dr. Köhler was called to the Technical University of Munich in 2019, Chaise followed him to Munich to continue his PhD here.
On August 03, 2021, Chaise passed his oral doctoral examination with excellence. The topic of his dissertation was The Effects of Energy Deficiency, Exercise and Dietary Protein on Skeletal Muscle and Bone.
On this topic, Chaise has already published two papers since early 2020:
- Caloric restriction induces anabolic resistance to resistance exercise, which was published in the European Journal of Applied Physiology (You will find the full-text here)
- Low Energy Availability with and without a High-Protein Diet Suppresses Bone Formation and Increases Bone Resorption in Men: A Randomized Controlled Pilot Study, which was published in Nutrients (You will find the full-text here)
His third paper entitled Energy Deficiency Impairs Resistance Training Gains in Lean Mass but not Strength: A Meta-Analysis and Meta-Regression has been conditionally accepted by the Scandinavian Journal of Medicine & Science in Sport.
In August, Chaise started a new position as Lecturer in health, physical education and recreation at Emporia State University (Kansas, USA). During his time at TUM, Chaise was already involved in teaching in the areas of sports nutrition, health, and physiology.
We wish Chaise all the best for his future path.
