On Saturday, May 17th, 2025, our professorship took part in the OSM Congress 2025 organized by the Bavarian Olympic Training Center (OSP Bayern) at Munich’s Olympic Park. Under the theme "Mythbuster Sports Nutrition," Prof. Dr. Karsten Köhler and Maja Morell led a dedicated session in which five members of our team scientifically addressed common nutrition myths.
In a series of short presentations, our speakers revealed the evidence behind widespread claims:
- Dr. Paulina Braunsperger-Wasserfurth
"Plant-based proteins are inferior to animal-based proteins." - Dominik Eiban, B.Sc. Sports Science (5th semester)
"Collagen should be supplemented before training." - Lucas Thurnherr, M.Sc. Sports and Nutrition Science
"Creatine causes weight gain and therefore slows you down." - Helena Engel, M.Sc. Sports and Nutrition Science
"Artificial sweeteners are harmless." - Elizabete Laivina, M.Sc. Sports and Nutrition Science
"You need megadoses to correct a vitamin D deficiency."
We greatly appreciate the opportunity to share our expertise in such an interdisciplinary setting. The Sports Medicine Congress of the OSP Bayern brings together leading experts in sports medicine, physiotherapy, exercise science, and related disciplines — and offers exciting insights into the preparation for the upcoming Olympic Games.
