For the start of the EIT study project "STOP MetSyn" in November our team grows again by the two health coaches Luna Schumacher and Johannes Soulaiman.
The project "STOP MetSyn" aims towards integrating healthier nutrition as well as more exercise into the everyday life of the study participants in order to reduce the risk of disease in a sustainable and long-term manner. The project is supported by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) as part of the Food4Health initiative. The "STOP MetSyn" study will take place at two sites: In Sweden at the Research Institute of Sweden (RISE) and in Germany at the Technical University of Munich, respectively with us at the Assistant Professorship of Exercise, Nutrition and Health .
With the study we want to examine the effectiveness of an app in combination with the support of a health coach to change risk factors of metabolic syndrome. The app accompanies participants in their daily lives and is designed to help them develop a healthier lifestyle, for example, by suggesting daily healthy recipes or workouts, depending on their fitness level. In addition, participants have regular meetings with their health coaches to receive personalized advice and set individual goals. This is where Luna Schumacher and Johannes Soulaiman, the responsible health coaches for the "STOP MetSyn" study, become active.
Luna Schumacher has been studying "Health Sciences" in her Bachelor's degree at TUM since 2018 and will not only be working on "STOP MetSyn" as a health coach from November, but will also be writing her Bachelor's thesis at our professorship as part of the project. She became aware of the topic of nutrition primarily through various continuing education courses at TUM: In addition to the fitness trainer B license, which also consisted partially of nutrition components, she participated in the course "Coaching for Sports Nutrition". In the future, Luna plans to additionally acquire the Fitness Trainer A license to expand her opportunities in the consulting sector.
Our second health coach, Johannes Soulaiman, also studied at TUM. After his bachelor's degree in "Scientific Foundations of Sports", he completed a master's degree in "Management" with sports informatics as an elective subject. During his studies, Johannes worked for several years as a student assistant at the Chair of Preventive and Rehabilitative Sports Medicine at the Technical University of Munich, where he was able to gain extensive experience in the training management of patients with cardiometabolic disease patterns in the context of various clinical studies. As a self-employed sports scientist and personal trainer, Johannes supports athletes from various disciplines in training and nutrition issues.
We are happy to welcome Luna and Johannes as new members of our team.
