Welcome to the Chair of Social Determinants of Health

The Chair is a leading center for research and teaching in health sociology and social epidemiology in Germany and offers an innovative research environment in the context of health sciences.

The mission of the Chair is to contribute to the maintenance and improvement of health across the life course - with a particular focus on childhood and youth - using theoretical and empirical research approaches. We accomplish this task through a variety of research approaches by identifying the social, political, and economic determinants of health and developing and evaluating strategies to improve health. The combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods and the interdisciplinary dialogue between natural and social sciences are an integral part of our work.

The findings obtained are made available to the public as peer-reviewed articles in international journals as well as practice-oriented publications. The research results are directly incorporated into our teaching and are taught as part of the courses in the bachelor's and master's degree programs of the Department of Sport and Health Sciences.
