Our vision
We collect and analyze empirical data that is of high practical relevance for sport and health providers.
Core competences of the department
The research activities of the department have both high research relevance and managerial implications. Our strength is to work with empirical data, which we collect by ourselves in collaboration. The results of our research are presented and discussed at conferences. The findings appear in scientific outlets such as management and economics, health and sports, and medical journals. The results of ongoing research activities are incorporated into the teaching program. This motivates students for scientific work and provides them with the most recent knowledge in sport and health management.
Research topics
The focus of our research is the interface between health topics, sport topics and management. On one hand, we analyze individual decision-making of consumers, for example with regard to healthy food decisions. On the other hand, we model the impact of products and services that are offered by companies. This allows us to make forecasts that are about the effectiveness of health measures, for example with regard to the benefits of physical activity (company health management, health prevention).
Research methods
Methods are choosen according to the respective empirical question. The pluralism of methods implemented at the Department of Sport and Health Management allows us to triangulate and rigorously study the research questions. We employ observations, surveys and experiments to collect the empirical data. We also use current technology such as eyetracking and reaction time measurements to obtain data in a valid and reliable manner.
