Students are required to think about the future perspectives and possible fields of work at an early stage. Furthermore, many students aim to have a fluent transition from their studies to their first job. Therefore, it was not surprising that the Seminar on Sport and Health Management in Practice – even in advance – enjoyed great popularity among students. We have been able to recruit guest speakers from prestigious companies and different areas of sport and health management, such as Schattenecker² GmbH, akzio!, Rieg Marketing or the German Football Association (DFB). Those students who registered first for the seminar and participated were not disappointed because already the first course, a workshop on the subject of employee health programs with Christine Breitbach, managing director of the Schattenecker² GmbH, was a great success.
In the first part of the course, Christine Breitbach reported on her beginnings, when she founded her own company. After graduation, driven by high determination and courage, she set up her own business, which was very inspiring for the participants and impressive at the same time. Using her knowledge from university classes and a hand full of contacts, she started the adventure self-employment. Something she did not regret until today (even though this decision was not made voluntarily in the beginning). It was very important for her to share her personal experiences and inform the students about potential dangers and risks of the self-employment. Using creative methods, paired with her tremendous expertise, Christine Breitbach succeeded in winning international corporations as customers for her agency, such as Daimler AG or Siemens AG. Her engagement mainly focuses on the consultation and the development of concepts for the implementation and the furthering of employee health programs. Her presentation was driven by personal experiences. This inspired students and Christine Breitbach successfully captured their attention for her ideas and her way of realizing self-employment. One can imagine that this led to a seemingly endless Q&A session after the presentation.
In the second part of the course, the participants had the opportunity to become more active, dive deeper into the concept of corporate health management, and apply their knowledge in a practical setting. After a detailed presentation of the objectives, the success factors and the processes in the area of employee health programs, the students developed own solutions for different problems and presented them to the whole group.
Although very exhausted, at the end of a long day, all participants were very satisfied and happy. They benefited a lot from the workshop and from the huge experience of the guest speaker. Therefore, we hope that in the future we will have the opportunity to welcome the Schattenecker² GmbH and Christine Breitbach as our guests again.
