Are you interested in sport management and the Olympic Movement? The Chair of Sport and Health Management offers master students who will be graduating from the TUM Department of Sport and Health Sciences or the TUM School of Management the possibility for interdisciplinary research (i.e., write a bachelor or master thesis) in the context of the 2020 Olympic Summer Games held in Tokyo.
The Olympic Games are the biggest sporting event in the world. The summer edition takes place every four years and brings major changes to the host cities and the host country. Until now, there has been little research into whether, and how, the hosting of the Olympic Games affects local sport clubs and sport federations. Master students have the possibility to conduct empirical research in the context of the event and work on the following topics:
(1) Managing change for sustainability in sports: Evidence from the 2020 Olympic Games
(2) Social innovation in the context of the 2020 Olympic Games
(3) The promotion of Olympic values and related human rights to visitors of the 2020 Olympic Games
(4) Change management in sport organizations of “new” Olympic sports: Insights into baseball/softball, karate, skateboarding, sport climbing and surfing
Please note that working on this topic requires a stay in Japan that lasts for about two months (between June and August). The travel and accommodation expenses will be reimbursed. Students will form a research team, in which students help each other to collect data, using various research methodologies.
Please include a motivation letter, your CV, and your transcript of records when you apply in one file and send your application until February 15, 2020 to joerg.koenigstorfer@tum.de.
