Background and objective of the projects
Two different tenders deal with socially relevant phenomena. The first project researchs on the austerity measures that threaten the survival of many popular sports clubs (GSCs). These measures have led to the hybridisation of GSCs, that have increasingly used market-based solutions to develop their activities. The current COVID-19 pandemic will further impact the economic situation of both local councils and GSCs, making their position even more precarious. The second project evaluates the role of ableism in the ability of the Paralympic Games legacy aims to contribute towards the goals of the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This project will evaluate the Paralympic legacy claims made by the International Paralympic Committee for the impact of the hosting of the Paralympic Games upon the wider disability community using the rescheduled Tokyo 2020 Games (now August 2021) as a case study.
