Klima bewegt!
Climate protection in physical education & schools
Climate protection should be a topic in all school subjects - also and especially in physical education, because this is where students deal directly with the environment. Klima bewegt! shows physical education teachers how they can address climate protection issues in physical education and thus contribute to climate-conscious behaviour among their students.

The teaching materials are online and can be found under the tab "Practical materials"! These are only available in German.

Summary
Klima bewegt! - Climate-conscious behaviour in and through sport attempts to bring climate protection topics into regular sports lessons. This is intended to contribute to students behaving in a (more) climate-conscious way. The project is aimed in particular at sports teachers and their students. With video-based short training courses, physical education teachers are shown concrete possibilities of how they can integrate climate protection topics into their physical education lessons. Klima bewegt! is funded by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety as part of the National Climate Initiative.
Background
Education plays an important role in effective climate protection, which is why Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) is now anchored in school curricula - including in the subject of physical education. However, at present, almost no sustainability education takes place in physical education, because physical education teachers need subject-specific and methodological competences to implement it. Therefore, it is necessary to develop and disseminate new didactic concepts for this purpose.
Aim of the project
The overarching goal of Klima bewegt! is to reduce CO2 emissions by making children and young people behave in a more climate-friendly way. This is achieved through an innovative educational offer that is implemented by sports teachers as multipliers in regular sports lessons and makes climate-conscious behaviour tangible.
Procedure
Klima bewegt! was divided into three consecutive components:
- The scientifically based development of a teaching-learning concept together with experts and stakeholders from physical education (students & teachers) and sustainability education / environmental education. It contains concrete teaching modules for the integration of sustainability education in the field of climate protection into regular physical education in grades 6 and 7.
- Evaluation of the teaching modules by experienced sports teachers. They check the developed materials with regard to their suitability for the target group and their practicability in physical education.
- The dissemination of the teaching modules and related materials: On the project homepage, the individual exercises are presented in short videos and all developed materials required for implementation are made available for download. Time horizon
The project period began in January 2019 and ended in December 2021. The teaching-learning concept is available since autumn 2019. The teaching modules were subsequently evaluated and revised. All materials and videos are available for download as practice materials since June 2021.
