Dr. Stefan Synek

Professional career
Stefan Synek studied Applied Geography (Diploma) with Business Administration and Social Psychology (minor) at the University of Trier. During his studies, he worked as cycling tour guide and completed an internship in Costa Rica. Also he was involved in the Japanes-German Sports Youth Exchange of the TV Passau and accompanied a delegation to Akita, Japan. After graduation Stefan Synek worked for Smart&Co Deutschland GmbH and Stiftung Warentest. He then worked as research associate and lecturer at the Faculty of Economics and Media at the Hochschule Fresenius in Munich. Furthermore, he supervised the study courses Business Administration (B.A.) and Sustainable Marketing & Leadership (M.A.) and was engaged in the management of research projects. Today, Stefan Synek works for the City of Munich, where he is involved into a project on the promotion of active traveling. Stefan Synek is an active runner and scuba diver and is passionate about race cycling, mountain biking and backcountry skiing. In June 2021 Stefan successfully completed his dissertation entitled "Essays on the adoption of the German company-leasing bicycle program".
Research interests
During his doctorate Stefan Synek focuses on the impacts on companies and employees participating in the business bike leasing program in Germany. He is particularly interested in the exploration of motives, determinants of diffusion and impacts like health benefits. Further research interests include current issues in the field of sustainability, particularly corporate sustainability.
