It's time again for exercise, fun and fresh air! "With the 'kidsTUMove' Winter Camp 2022, we want to lure as many children as possible away from their screens and motivate them for outdoor adventures," says Prof. Dr. Renate Oberhoffer-Fritz, Dean of the Department of Sport and Health Sciences and head of the Chair of Preventive Pediatrics. The organizational team led by Dr. Nicola Stöcker from the Chair of Preventive Pediatrics and the Applied Sports Science Unit has come up with a diverse program for this purpose.
Under the motto "Polar Expedition," the week-long snow adventure will start on February 28, 2022, on the TUM Campus in the Olympic Park. Plans include searching for treasure in the Arctic and scaling the polar heights - a trip to the climbing hall, as Dr. Stöcker reveals with a wink. In addition to fantasy football, the team will then also train diligently for a Winter Olympics. Afterwards, the winter carnival will provide for a common togetherness after the long isolation. "With our varied program, we want to counteract the chronic lack of exercise in recent months and finally enable the children to socialize again," summarizes Dr. Stöcker. Registration for the camp is still possible and a waiting list place is also worthwhile. "If demand is high, we have the option of adding capacity at short notice," says Dr. Stöcker.
Participation is possible for everyone, whether healthy or with a chronic illness, emphasizes Dr. Christina Sitzberger, co-organizer of the Winter Camp. "We are attuned to all children and design the camp to be as inclusive as possible. This is very enriching for the children, and we have had very good experiences in the past," says the sports scientist. "By de-stressing the currently very stressful family routine and keeping the children occupied with sports, games and fun, the entire family can benefit from participating in the camp," Dr. Sitzberger once again invites interested parties to participate.
In addition to the upcoming "kidsTUMove" Winter Camp, the doors of the "Move it" sports group are currently open. In this group, children can find out what sports they enjoy or, for example after an invasive procedure, try them out in a protected setting and build up self-confidence. Every Tuesday and Thursday, from 4 to 5 PM, kids are busy playing sports in the school gymnasium of the new ZHS building in the Olympic Park. Interested participants are always welcome!
