“Empowering Women in Health Innovation”, or “WE Health” for short, is a “EIT Health” campus programme strategic project designed to promote women's engagement in health innovation and entrepreneurial activities. It offers capacity development tailored to individual needs and inspires and supports women to advance their professional careers. The Technical University Munich is a key project partner, alongside universities from France, Poland, Portugal, Sweden, and Spain.
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Klaus Diepold and the “Centre for Digital Technology and Management” (CDTM) were responsible for implementing the project over the past two years. Due to the health and diversity oriented approach of the module content, the “EIT Health” certified science managers Dr. Daniela Schwarz and Elke Langbein from the extended Associate Professorship of Didactics in Sport and Health were able to acquire the project for the Department of Sport and Health Sciences.
The “WE Health” capacity building programme consists of three modules with different thematic focuses, which are aimed at various female target groups in the health sector. The first module was held digitally from May 11th to 12th 2020 under the motto “Unlocking your Innovative Potential”. The second module “Starting your Entrepreneurship Journey” will now be held online from July 6th to 8th 2020 under the guidance of the TU Munich. The third module “Empowering Women Leadership in Health Innovation” is expected to be held in Spain in autumn 2020.
Prof. Dr. Claudia Peus, TUM Vice President for Talent Management and Diversity, will give the opening speech for the second module on July 6th 2020. It is aimed at scientists or entrepreneurs with a business idea or those already working on their own business idea in the health care sector.
“Naturally, we are very pleased that we were able to win Prof. Dr. Peus for our program”, explains Dr. Daniela Schwarz. “We were also able to create a highly attractive and entertaining concept within the framework of the digital event." This is confirmed by the number of participants, which reached maximum well before the application deadline at the end of June.
“We would like to draw your attention to the 'Female Founder Talk' organised by UnternehmerTUM, which will take place on Monday, July 6th 2020, from 4 to 6 PM. All interested listeners are invited to join the video conference and can do so without prior registration”, says Elke Langbein. Guests at the talk are the two speech therapists Dr. Hanna Jakob and Dr. Mona Späth, who have developed “Neolexon”, a fully customisable digital therapy system. Their presentations will provide insights into the lives of female founders, describe current challenges and answer questions from the audience. The “Female Founder Talk” is part of the UnternehmerTUM initiative “Women Start-up”, which aims to motivate and inspire women to pursue start-up and technology opportunities.
