Nearly 100 years ago Otto Warburg discovered that cancer cell change their metabolism. Today we know that this serves to provide metabolites as substrates for anabolic reaction in fast growing cancer cells. In our preliminary data we noted that a similar metabolic remodelling occurs during regeneration of skeletal muscle after injury and in hypertrophying skeletal muscle. The aim of this MSc project is to stain healthy and diseased muscle sections for a Warburg effect-related enzyme using a method called immunohistochemistry. In this project you will learn to culture muscle cells and to stain cultured muscle cells or muscle samples using immunohistochemistry We are looking for a highly motivated Master student of Sport and Exercise Science, Biology, Biochemistry or related subject to join our team.
