High recognition for Dr. Daniela Schwarz: The research associate at the Associate Professorship of Didactics in Sport and Health was elected as the Gender Equality Officer for Science and the Arts (TUM Gender Equality Officer) during the TUM Senate meeting on January 29, 2025. Her term of office will initially run until October 2025.
Dr. Daniela Schwarz expressed her delight at the election: "The role of the TUM Gender Equality Officer is undoubtedly the most significant and politically influential position I have had the privilege to assume during my time at TUM. After facing numerous challenges in my career, this role fills me with great responsibility and commitment. I perceive the direct appreciation by the Senate and the Executive Board as sincere and empowering."
As TUM Gender Equality Officer, Dr. Daniela Schwarz aims to advance various intersectional focal points, including the promotion of inclusive leadership, diverse curricula, and research approaches. Additionally, projects will be implemented to achieve gender equality goals. Measures include using the upcoming UEFA Women's EURO 2025 as a research platform, as well as projects focusing on inclusion through sports and technology. A comprehensive evaluation system ensures the continuous monitoring of progress.
Prof. Dr. Renate Oberhoffer Fritz, Vice Dean Talent Management & Diversity and head of the Chair of Preventive Pediatrics, emphasized: "I am pleased that Dr. Daniela Schwarz, a member of the Department of Sport and Health Sciences at the School of Medicine and Health, will serve as TUM’s Gender Equality Officer. Due to her scientific expertise in inclusion, she will contribute significantly to strengthening this topic at TUM. I sincerely congratulate her on her election and wish her great success in her role."
Dr. Daniela Schwarz has been affiliated with TUM since 2011 and collaborates with Elke Langbein on Inclusive Teaching. Their research focuses on current teaching and research priorities related to social and professional participation through sports and movement, as well as adapted physical activity – from both medical and societal perspectives.
"Daniela Schwarz has been involved in research and teaching on these socially relevant topics for many years and has successfully implemented many national and international projects. I am therefore very pleased and also very proud that Daniela Schwarz can now take on this valuable work for the entire TUM," explains Prof. Dr. Filip Mess, head of the Associate Professorship of Didactics in Sport and Health.
The Gender Equality Officers for Science and Arts (TUM Gender Equality Officers) support the university in implementing gender equality initiatives. This role was established in 1988 by the Bavarian Higher Education Act and has since played a central role in promoting equal opportunities at the Technical University of Munich.
The primary responsibility of the TUM Gender Equality Officer is to prevent disadvantages for female scientists and students (BayHIG, Art. 22). In this capacity, they serve as key contacts for women in studies, teaching, and research.
Furthermore, the Gender Equality Officers participate as voting members in Senate and Extended University Management meetings and actively advocate for equality measures in the University Council.
