Every year, around 350 well-trained young people graduate from the Department of Sport and Health Sciences at TUM. The closer the graduation comes, the more concrete the question about the next step, the step into the professional world, becomes for most graduates. To help students with their decision, build a network as well as self-confidence, the Department of Sport and Health Sciences hosted a Career Day for the first time on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at the TUM Campus in the Olympic Park.
Under the title "Opening up perspectives for life after graduation together", interested students were able to get in touch with various potential employers at the career fair. Companies from various industries relevant to the study programs of the Department SG were available to answer students' questions at a total of about ten booths. The Health Department of the City of Munich, the Olympic Training Center Bavaria, the body + soul Group, Beat81, the Stiftung Kindergesundheit, the Stiftung Pfennigparade, the Techniker Krankenkasse Landesvertretung, GymPass, Movement 24 GmbH and the Kbo-Isar-Amper-Klinikum gGmbH presented themselves to the students at the career fair.
In addition, representatives of some of the companies gave short presentations to clarify the respective job description for the students and to provide further insights. Among others, GymPass spoke about the topic "Netflix beats sports. Gympass beats Netflix!" as well as Techniker Krankenkasse on "Salary Negotiations."
"The first Career Day of our Department was a great opportunity for our students to make their first professional contacts during their studies as well as to build up a network," said Dr. Till Lorenzen, Managing Director of the Department of Sport and Health Sciences, who made his own impression of the career fair on site in the afternoon. "I can therefore only recommend to the students to look left and right even now and to inform themselves intensively about possible occupational fields and potential employers. This can definitely be helpful for later career entry if students already know the right people and who they can turn to for advice in this regard. For later career entry, practical contacts and experience during studies via internships, for example, are at least as important as the course content of our degree programs."
The Career Day was organized by the Student Advisory Office. "We are very pleased that the career fair was so well received by the students," explains Stefan Unzeitig, study advisor for the bachelor's and master's programs. "With the different providers, we had a great thematic variance. We hope that the students got an insight into the professional fields and had a good exchange with employers."
