The aim is to value diversity in all areas of everyday university life and to live inclusion as an organisational culture. According to the TUM Diversity Code of Conduct, the Technical University of Munich recognises the diversity of individual talents as a distinctive institutional value. Talents should be promoted regardless of gender, race, religion and belief, disability, age or sexual identity. To this end, the Department would like to establish a culture of diversity and inclusion that is reflected in the working atmosphere, research and teaching, talent management and public communications.
Anti-Racism at TUM
In view of the Black Lives Matter movement, we, the Faculty of Sports and Health Sciences, want to focus on the issue of racism in everyday university life. In addition to discussions and events that raise awareness of the issue, our aim is to establish a network that is dedicated to the fight against racism.
For this purpose, it is important to gather experience, concerns or ideas from the entire university community in order to identify the right needs.
In case of experience of discrimination, you are also entitled to contact the TUM Compliance Office. You can reach us at +49 89 289 28 070 or compliance (at) tum.de.
Legal basis: Allgemeines Gleichbehandlungsgesetz (AGG). Juristische Beratung in einem Diskriminierungsfall oder bei sexueller Belästigung durch die Antidiskriminierungsstelle des Bundes
In addition, the new #anti-racism chat has been created, which is also available for any concerns, but also for discussions on the subject of racism.
The promotion of equal opportunity is a central concern of our department. Whereas women and men are equally reflected in the group of doctoral students, women are less represented in higher positions, especially among the professorships. An explicit goal of the department is therefore to promote postdoctoral researchers, in order to motivate up-and-coming female scientists to make their academic potential available for the future.
The faculty offers an individual consultation and funding opportunities to support junior scientists and to encourage, especially, female scientists in planning and developing their academic career. The faculty offers funding programmes to support young researchers and promote gender equality, which are based on the faculty’s Diversity-Guidelines.

Internationalisation strategy
The aim is to make the department more attractive for international students and scientists and at the same time make it easier for its own students and staff to spend time abroad.
You can find detailed information on the page: Internationalization.
Current research projects at the department
Every year a detailed list of diversity-related research projects carried out at the department is published in the yearly Diversity Report. In addition, current as well as finished projects and diversity-related final theses are presented under Diversity in research.
Gender and diversity in teaching and studying
In the Sports and Health Sciences, a diversity of students comes together from different subject areas, countries and socio-cultural backgrounds. This is understood as a particular potential of the department. For this reason, a diversity-oriented approach to diversity in teaching and studying should be expressly encouraged and actively lived.
Suggestions for implementing gender and diversity-oriented teaching are available under: Diversity in studying and teaching.
Family-friendly structures
The promotion of family-friendly educational and working conditions is a central goal of the Department of Sport and Health Sciences. In the course of the targeted diversity agreement, measures have been formulated to promote more family-friendly structures within the department. Various varieties of flexible child care have already been offered. Aside from holiday camps and the KidsTUMove Program, flexible child care for events, conferences, meetings or occupational appointments, in cooperation with professional child-care agencies, have been made available at the request of students and staff members both within and outside of the regular child-care times.
More information can be foud under: Compatibility of Occupation/Studies and Family.
