In the course of qualifying for a teaching degree in Bavaria, the subject of sports at the TU Munich can be selected as either a didactic subject or as a simple school subject. Hereby, an individual course of studies for each type of school presently exists, which the students can complete within seven to nine semesters along with the subsequent traineeship to qualify for their occupation as a teacher. The training for students beginning in the subject of sports for High Schools, Secondary Schools as well as for Elementary and Middle Schools is carried out in accordance with the legal examination regulations of the teaching profession (Lehramtsprüfungsordnung I (LPO I)) from March 13, 2008.
The following courses of study for a teaching profession are offered at the TUM Department of Sport and Health Sciences.
Teaching profession at a High School
- Teaching subject of Sports with a second subject at the Ludwigs-Maximilians University of Munich. Available here are German, English, Mathematics, Religion or Latin. Conclusion: State examination.
- Teaching subject of Sports with a second subject at the TUM. Only in combination with Mathematics in the course of studies in "Natural Sciences", which is offered at the TUM School of Education. Conclusion: Bachelor/Masters of Education; possibly followed by a traineeship.
Teaching profession at a Secondary School
- Teaching subject of Sports with a second subject at the LMU. Available here are German, English, Mathematics or Economics. Conclusion: State examination.
Teaching profession at a Middle School
- Teaching subject of Sports. Conclusion: State examination.
- Didactic subject of Sports in the course of studies in Didactics for a group of subjects in the Middle School. Conclusion: State examination.
Teaching profession at an Elementary School
- Teaching subject of Sports. Conclusion: State examination.
- Didactic subject of Sports in the course of studies in the Didactics for a group of subjects in the Elementary School. Conclusion: State examination.
Teaching profession at Vocational Schools
- Teaching subjects (two-fold) of Sports in combination with a vocational subject in the course of studies for "Vocational Training", which is offered at the TUM School of Education. Conclusion: Bachelor/Masters of Education.
- Occupational subject "Health and Health-care Sciences" in combination with a second subject in the course of studies for "Vocational Training", which is offered at the TUM School of Education. Conclusion: Bachelor/Masters of Education.
Admission requirements
Admission requirements for the teacher training courses are:
- A general or subject-related university entrance qualification
- Passed Sport-qualification exam (valid for all academic subjects, also for Bachelor/Master's of Education; for the didactic subject of Sports, there is no need for the Sport-qualification exam).
