Combining the latest research findings with innovative teaching methods and activating didactic concepts are at the heart of the guiding principles for good teaching and learning at TUM. Linda Liang, Research Associate at the Chair of Epidemiology of Prof. Dr. Stefanie Klug and a lecturer at the Department of Sport and Health Sciences, has now been honored for her special contributions to Excellence in Teaching.
During the Department’s Council meeting on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, Ms. Liang was presented with the Honorary Certificate for Excellence in Teaching by Dean Prof. Dr. Renate Oberhoffer-Fritz and Prof. Dr. Stefanie Klug.
"I am honoured to have been nominated for this prize”, Liang is pleased about the Honorary Certificate and the award that comes with it. “Students need to consume a lot of information and understand complex theories in a relatively short period of time. By integrating a multimodal approach to the classes, I am happy to hear that students value this, and can walk away having learnt something new and different."
Every year, TUM awards Honorary Certificates for Excellence in Teaching to lecturer who are nominated by the Schools or Departments for the "Prize for Good Teaching" of the Bavarian State Ministry of Education and Culture, Science and the Arts.
The recognition of teaching excellence is based on an outstanding evaluation of the courses by the students. Particular emphasis was placed on Liang's ability to create a positive learning environment, to address the specific needs of the students, and to inspire the students with her enthusiasm for the course content. Therefore, Liang was nominated for the award by the Department SG with the support of the student council.
In her courses in the mainly method-related modules of the Bachelor's and Master's degree programs of the Department of Sport and Health Sciences, Liang is particularly oriented towards the needs of her students and tailors her teaching to them individually. She tests varied, interactive and medially diverse formats, which she supplements by involving external experts - and is confirmed by the popularity and success of her students.
"Ms. Liang takes care of our students with great motivation and joy and always has an open ear for their concerns. I am very pleased that she receives this award. It has now become a tradition that employees at the Chair of Epidemiology are honoured for their outstanding teaching," explains Prof. Klug.
