The Professorship for Conservative and Rehabilitative Orthopedics of the Faculty for Sport and Health Sciences has now existed for five years. On Friday, November 27, 2015, Prof. Dr. med. Thomas Horstmann and his team celebrated this anniversary with a scientific symposium (10 a.m.-7 p.m., Campus D, Room L022).
"Our goal is to always to transform the results of scientific research results in practice. The SymposiTUM offers a very good platform," explains Prof. Horstmann.
Horstmann and his staff members hope to obtain a broad discussion on the research results, especially also with practitioners. To date, already 70 interested individuals have registered.
Organized through doctoral candidates
For the fifth time, the SymposiTUM will take place together with the Medical Park Clinic of Bad Wiessee. The meeting is organized by the professor's full doctoral-candidate staff of six members. "Our goal is that every doctoral candidate will help to organize a symposium in the course of obtaining their doctorate," explains Dr. Torsten Brauner, Deputy Director of the Professorship for Conservative and Rehabilitative Orthopedics. After all, aside from the additional improvement in organizational competency, this will also support the doctoral candidates in developing their own network, according to Brauner.
For Friday, the mixture of physicians, sport scientists as well as practitioners will speak on the three topics of "Sensomotoric Training", "Gait Analysis" and "Movement with Prosthetic joints". Furthermore, the doctoral candidates of the chair will present their own research.
Prof. Horstmann: "An excerpt from our work"
"The three topics represent a portion of our work over the past few years. I am happy that we have an opportunity to present this to the public," says Horstmann. Additionally; the organizers have been successful in inviting specialists for each of these blocks. "I am very happy with this input and also that we may possibly be able to trigger one or another new cooperatives," Horstmann believes. "I think that our doctoral candidates have organized an exciting program on these three very interesting topics," summarizes Brauner.
The SymposiTUM will begin early on Friday morning with two defenses of theses by Master's students followed subsequently by the presentation of three Bachelor dissertations. Those who are interested can register themselves via E-Mail at kro.symposium(at)tum.de. The event is free of charge and provides physiotherapists with 3 furthering education points.
