Under the title "#breakingtraditions - Women. Career. Sport", the Olympic Training Center of Bavaria (OSP Bavaria) and the TUM School of Medicine and Health are organising a career day for women in sport for the second time on November 4, 2023 at the TUM Campus in the Olympic Park. This year's motto "Independent - Self-Determined - Self-Confident" unites important competences that are necessary - not only for women - for a successful career in the context of "sport".
"The current club and association landscape in Germany is still very male-heavy, although, for example, the majority of our Bavarian Olympic medals are won by women," says Volker Herrmann, head of the OSP Bavaria. "With #breakingtraditions, we therefore want to motivate young women to consider full-time or voluntary careers in sport. With the versatile offer and thanks to the support of numerous experts, we offer young female athletes, students and all interested parties the opportunity to gain valuable impulses, incentives and motivation for their own careers in sports business in close coordination with the TUM."
During the event, successful and inspiring personalities from sports, business and politics will share their experiences with the participants and provide concrete tips to support young women on their way to a career in sports.
"The role of women in sport is currently a major topic in our society," says Prof. Dr. Joachim Hermsdörfer, Head of the Department Health and Sport Sciences. "I think it's great that, for example, in the German Bundesliga, the games of the women's teams are now also taking place in large stadiums and that there is also a corresponding response from the spectators. Or when you see that women were given their own platform for the first time at the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii, it shows that more attention is being paid to women in sport. The #breakingtraditions event is now following on from this. Under the context of diversity, important topics that we as a department stand for will be present there."
The topics of "independent work", "self-determined action" and "self-confident appearance" will be represented in various formats such as short lectures, interviews, workshops and a panel discussion. The event day will be rounded off with a come-together on one of Munich's most prominent landmarks - the Olympic Tower.
"The feedback following the first event last year was very good. It made us feel that we would like to hold the career day again," explains Andrea Göttler, Diversity Officer of the Department Health and Sport Sciences. "The three topics this year cover exciting skills that are important not only for sport but also for potential career paths."
As part of the program of events, Dajana Eitberger, luge world champion and silver medalist at the 2018 Olympic Games in Pyeongchang/South Korea, will give a keynote speech. In addition, Viktoria Rebensburg, Olympic champion in giant slalom and founder of the "Fit & Active" project for children's health, will answer the participants' questions in the exclusive "Get inspired" interview and provide a glimpse behind the scenes of the world of top-class sport during and after her successful career.
In various workshops on the topics of "Career", "Personal Development" and "Support", experts from different fields will provide insights into career paths, their own experiences or the challenges of a career in the field of "sport". When registering, participants can choose from a total of three different workshops.
The official part of the event will be rounded off by a panel discussion entitled "Women.Career.Sport - Necessary framework conditions and helpful skills for successful career paths".
The day will be hosted by moderator and influencer Maren Schiller, who has already moderated the European Championships Munich 2022 and the Special Olympics World Games 2023 in Berlin.
Participation is free of charge. Interested parties can register on the event website.
